Automatic Configuration for Windows

Once you have downloaded the file (and unzipped it if necessary) then doubleclick it to setup your connection

 

Windows XP

Configuring your connection is easy.

  1. Click the Start button in your system tray (lower, left corner of your screen)
  2. From the menu, select 'Connect To' --> 'Show all connections'
  3. You will see the Network Connections screen
  4. Click the 'Create a new connection' link (upper left corner)
  5. When you see the 'Welcome to the Network Connection Wizard' screen, click 'Next'
  6. Select Connect to the Internet and click 'Next'
  7. Select the option to Set up your Internet connection manually (the second one) and click 'Next'
  8. Select 'Connect using a dial-up modem' and click 'Next'.
  9. Enter 'FreeUK Dialup' and click 'Next'
  10. Enter the FreeUKDialup number 0845 055 1861 and click 'Next'
  11. Select 'Anyone's use' and click 'Next'
  12. Enter your username 'free' and password 'free' (leave all other options as they are) and click 'Next'
  13. Select 'Add a shortcut to this location to my desktop' and click 'Finish'
  14. That's it! Anytime you want to connect to the Internet, just double click the new icon on your desktop or in your 'Network and Dialup Connections' window.


Windows 2000

Configuring your connection is easy.

  1. From your desktop, right click on the 'My Network Places' icon
  2. From the menu, select 'Properties'
  3. You will see the Network and Dialup connections screen
  4. Double click the 'Make New Connection' icon
  5. When you see the 'Welcome to the Network Connection Wizard' screen, click 'Next'
  6. Select 'Dial up to the Internet' and click 'Next'
  7. Select the option to 'Set up my Internet connection manually' (the third one) and click 'Next'
  8. Select 'I connect using a phone line and a modem' and click 'Next'.
  9. Enter the FreeUKDialup number 0845 055 1861
  10. Click the button that says 'Advanced'
  11. Select the 'Connection' tab
  12. Under 'Connection Type', check to see that you have 'PPP' selected
  13. Under 'Logon Procedure', check to see that you have 'None' selected
  14. Click 'OK'
  15. Click 'Next'
  16. Enter your username 'free' and password 'free' and click 'Next'
  17. Enter a name for the connection (e.g. FreeUKDialup) and click 'Next'
  18. You will be asked if you want to setup an Internet mail account. Click 'No'
  19. Click 'Finish'
  20. That's it! Anytime you want to connect to the Internet just double click the new icon in your 'Network and Dialup Connections' window.

Windows '95 & '98

Configuring your connection is easy.

  1. From your desktop, double click on My Computer
  2. Double click on the Dial-up Networking folder
  3. Double click the Make New Connection icon
  4. Enter a name for the connection (e.g. FreeUK Dialup) and click 'Next'
  5. Enter the FreeUKDialup number 0845 055 1861 and click 'Next'
  6. Click the 'Finish' button to close the window and a new icon will appear in your 'Network and Dialup Connections' window
  7. Double click the new icon (this is the connection you just created and will have the name you just gave it)
  8. Enter your username 'free' and password 'free' and click 'Connect'
  9. That's it! Anytime you want to connect to the Internet just double click the new icon in your Network and Dialup Connections window.

Macintosh (OS9)

Configuring your connection is easy.

  1. Click on your Mac hard disk
  2. Click on the 'Mac Assistants' folder
  3. Click on the Internet Setup Assistant. When the Internet Setup Assistant appears, click 'Yes' to continue
  4. This screen asks if you already have an Internet account. Click 'Yes' to continue.
  5. This screen asks if you have the information needed to set up your account. Click the arrow to move to the next step. Note that your DNS server and the IP address will be assigned for you later in the process.
  6. Enter a name for your connection (e.g FreeUKDialup) and then select Modem and click the arrow to move to the next step.
  7. The Macintosh OS usually selects the modem already installed on your system. If you want to choose a different modem, select it from the drop down list, as well as the port you wish to use. Click the arrow to move to the next step.
  8. Enter the FreeUKDialup number 0845 055 1861
  9. Enter the Login ID 'free'. Click the arrow to move to the next step.
  10. This screen asks if you require a PPP connect script when you log on. Select 'No' and click the arrow to move to the next step.
  11. This screen asks if you if there is a specific Static IP address for your setup. Select 'No' and click the arrow to move to the next step.
  12. This screen asks for your Domain Name Servers (DNS). Leave this blank and your DNS servers will be assigned automatically when you connect. Click the arrow to move to the next step.
  13. This screen asks for your e-mail address and password. If you have an e-mail address, you can enter it here. If not, you can leave these fields blank. Click the arrow to move to the next step.
  14. This screen asks for the incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) mail server names. For incoming server enter the mail server of your e-mail provider (pop.freeukdialup.com if you are using a freeukdialup email address) or leave blank. In the second field, enter the FreeUKDialup mail server which is 'smtp.virtelco.com'. Click the arrow to move to the next step.
  15. This screen asks for the News server name. Leave this field blank and click the arrow to move to the next step.
  16. This screen asks if you are using a proxy server. Select 'No' and click the arrow to move to the next step.
  17. Last step. To complete your Internet setup, click on 'Go Ahead'. If you don't want to connect to the Internet right away, remove the check mark from the 'Connect when finished' field.
  18. That's it!

Mac OS X

  1. First configure TCP/IP. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences. Click on the Network icon. Then click on the TCP/IP tab.
  2. In the Location drop down menu, select Automatic.
  3. In the Show field, select Internal Modem. Leave the other fields blanl
  4. Click on the PPP tab.
  5. In the Configure drop down menu, select Internal Modem.
  6. In the Service Provider field, enter FreeUKDialup.
  7. In the Account Name field, enter 'free'.
  8. In the Telephone field, enter the FreeUKDialup number 0845 055 1861
  9. Click on the Apply Now button to save the settings. Quit the System Preferences.
  10. To establish a connection, click the Finder icon in the Dock.
  11. Open your hard disk e.g. 'Macintosh HD'. Open the Applications folder.
  12. Double-Click on the Internet Connect icon. For easier access in the future you can drag this icon to the dock.
  13. Enter your password 'free', then click on the Connect button.
  14. Once a connection has been made, the Status box reports Connection Established. You have now established a dial-up connection.
  15. To disconnect click the Disconnect button on the Internet Connect panel.

Accessing E-mail

If you would like an email account, please complete this form. Once we have notified you of your username and password, you may access your email through our webmail page or using any normal POP3 client (e.g. Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora etc).

Webmail

Please go to www.freeukdialup.com/webmail/ to login. It's a good idea to bookmark that page for easy future reference.

Your username will be your full e-mail address which is yourname@freeukdialup.com, and the password will be the one we provide you with.

MS Outlook

  1. For Outlook 2000, go to Tools > Accounts > Properties > Servers. (For other versions, this may not be the exact path to the 'Servers' tab.)
  2. Set your SMTP (outgoing mail) to smtp.virtelco.com
  3. Set your incoming POP mail to pop.freeukdialup.com
  4. Under Incoming Mail Server, set your Account Name to your full e-mail address which is yourname@freeukdialup.com, and the password will be the one we provide you with.
